Multiple intelligences theory proposes that there are several different types of intelligence rather than just one general intelligence. It was proposed by psychologist Howard Gardner in 1983. Gardner defined intelligence as a set of skills to solve problems and gather new knowledge. The theory identifies nine types of intelligence: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, and existential. Each type of intelligence corresponds to a different set of mental abilities and inclinations.
