Semister Project Proposal Final

This document outlines a semester project proposal to detect faults in overhead transmission lines between 100-150 km using software. The project was submitted by three students - Kewani Zenebe, Hana G/yohanes, and Haftom Guesh - at Aksum University under the supervision of Mr. Hagos G and M.Sc. Gebrehiwot. The objectives are to study and analyze faults, design a transmission line in software, design a relay circuit in software, and select a better protection method. The methodology involves researching literature, selecting materials, specifying circuit design, and developing a simulation. A timeline is provided stretching from March to June.

Introduction

A fault is any abnormal condition in a power system. The steady

state operating mode of a Power system is balanced 3-phase Ac.
However, due to sudden external or internal changes in the system for
example like lightning, wind, natural disaster & human error.
Statement of the problem

Fault is a flow of very high value of voltage or current above the

normal value. Due to this many electrical apparatus like transformer,
generator, transmission lines, and loads also for Human being get
affected because of overheating and insulation failure
Objective of the project
• General objective
The general objective of this project is to detect fault in overhead
transmission lines from 100-150 km and trying to locate the exact
location of the fault place

• Specific objective
• To study and analysis faults
• To design a transmission line using MATLAB or other software
• To design Relay circuit and operation using MATLAB or other software
Significance of the project

• Safety for People.

• Equipment safety: Keeping equipment safe from various electrical
abnormal and faulty conditions.
• Power system stability: Continuous and reliable power supply.
• To select and develop a better for protection purpose
Scope of the project

The scope of this project is

Design of transmission line using SW
Fault detection and finding the location of fault SW
 Up to Software simulation and No hardware implementation
