Drought is a condition of acute scarcity of water caused by significantly less than average rainfall in an area. There are three main types of drought: meteorological, which refers to low rainfall; hydrological, which affects water levels in reservoirs and rivers; and agricultural, which impacts water availability for crops. Some areas that are prone to drought include the Marathwada region in Maharashtra and Chitradurga-Bijapur in Karnataka. The document provides a high-level overview of drought, its types and impacts, as well as examples of drought-prone regions in India.
