What is Sufism?
The sufi is one who is a lover of Truth, who
by means of love and devotion moves
towards the Truth, towards the perfection
which all are truly seeking. As necessitated
by love's jealousy, the sufi is taken away
from all except the Truth.

Sultan Bahu
Sultan Bahu (Urdu:اہو$$$لطانب$$( )سca 1628 – 1691) was a Muslim Sufi and saint, who founded the Sarwari
Qadiri sufi order.
Sultan Bahu belonged to Awan tribe. Like many other sufi saints of the South Asia, Sultan Bahu was also
a prolific writer, with more than forty books on Sufism attributed to him. Most of His books are in
Persian language. However, as the majority of his books deal with specialised subjects related to Islam
and Islamic mysticism, it is his Punjabi poetry that has generated popular appeal and made him a
household name in the region. His poetic verses are sung in many genres of sufi music, including
qawaalis and kaafis. Tradition has established a particular style of singing his couplets, which is not used
in any other genre of sufi music. (Please see the External Links section for audio resources.)
The Mausoleum of Sultan Bahu is located in Garh Maharaja, Punjab, Pakistan. It is a popular and
frequently-visited sufi shrine, and theannual festival is celebrated with the usual fervour, which is now a
distinguishing feature of what is being called a ‘shrine culture’ of theSouth Asia. Annual festival is held
during the holy month of Muharram. Every year on the 9th of Muharram (Islamic calendar month)
aghusal is also taken place under the supervision of Muhammad Najeeb Sultan (Sajjada Nasheen (Chair-
holder) of Sultan Bahoo shrine), in which all decedents of Sultan Bahoo wash His shrine with tones of
pure rose water.
Hazrat Sultan Bahu is from the progeny of Hazrat Ali and is a direct descended from Hazrat Ali (cousin
of Muhammad, husband ofFatima and father of Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali). Traditionally
according to the law of the land he is Hashimi and belongs to the tribe of A’wan. Historically the A’wan

DATA GANJ BASKH
The Great Book On Sufism - The Kashaf Al
Mahjoob
This is one of the best and oldest book written on Sufism nearly 950 years ago. It
has the saying, methods and rules of the Sufis and the stories of Ahle Sufa,
Shaba, Ahle Bayt, Ancient Imams and leading Sufi saints of the early ages
whose lives were lived according to Quran and Sunnah. Data Saab discusses
the various schools of Sufism, the correct beliefs of Muslims, Conduct,
Hadiths and Quranic Tafsir etc. In this way it is a complete book where
Islamic teachings are given in such an easy way that from student to saint
everyone can benefit. Data Saab proves that Sufis are only those who follow
Quran and Sunnah and that Tariqat is no different from Shariah but the Tariqat
is the fruit and the end result of shariah, and these two cannot be separated at
all. He also refutes the false and fabricated Sufi tales which corrupt people and
reminds that we follow the true Sufi examples at all times.
