What is ANIMATION ?
• Animation can help make a PowerPoint
presentation more dynamic, and help make information more memorable. The most common types of animation effects include entrances and exits. You can also add sound to increase the intensity of your animation effects. • Presentation experts recommend using animations and sound effects sparingly. All animation in PowerPoint can be divided into four types:
• Entrance animations are used to introduce a slide object
within a slide. If a slide was a room, and you were a slide object. Then an entrance animation will be akin to you entering the room. • Emphasis animations are used to animate slide objects that are already present on a slide. Using the same analogy as we used for Entrance animations, you would already be in the room, and would move from one area in the room to another -- this would be akin to an Emphasis animation. • Exit animations are used to animate slide objects off a slide. So, if you were a slide object in a room (slide), then you walking out of the room would be akin to an Exit animation. • Motion Path animations are similar to Emphasis animations since they are typically used to move slide objects already on a slide. They are different from other animations though since motion path animations cause movement set on a path. This path could be a circle, a line, or anything else. Apply entrance and exit animation effects • Select the text or object that you want to animate. • On the Animations tab, in the Animation group, click an animation effect from the gallery. Click the More arrow to see more options. • To alter how your selected text animates, click Effect Options, and then click what you want the animation to do. • To specify the timing of the effects, on the Animations tab, use the commands in the Timing group. For more information, see Set the animation timing or effect options. Apply a motion path to text or an object • Click the object or text to which you want to add a motion path. The path that you apply is followed by the center of the object or text bullet. • On the Animations tab, in the Animations group, under Motion Paths, do one of the following: • Click Lines, Arcs, Turns, Shapes, or Loops. The path chosen appears as a dotted line on the selected object or text object. The green arrow indicates the path’s beginning and the red arrow indicates its end. • Click Custom Path. Click where you want the motion path to start. • To draw a path of connected straight lines, move the pointer and click where you want the line to end. Draw the next connected line by clicking where you want it to end. Double-click at the motion’s final end point. • To draw an irregular path, hold down the left mouse button and move the pointer on the path that you want the motion path to follow. Double-click at the motion’s final end point. • To see the complete animation and sound for the slide, on the Animations tab, in the Preview group, click Preview. ANIMATE TEXT OR OBJECTS • You can animate the text, pictures, shapes, tables, SmartArt graphics, and other objects in your PowerPoint presentation. • Effects can make an object appear, disappear, or move. They can change an object's size or color. To enlarge the video, click Play, then click the sizing arrow . There's also a related video about animating text. Apply an Animation • Select the object or text on the slide that you want to animate. • On the Animations tab of the ribbon, click Add Animation, and pick an animation effect. Change the speed of the animation effect • The speed of the effect is determined by the Duration setting. • On the slide, select the animation effect that you want to change. • On the Animations tab, under Timing options, in the Duration box, enter the number seconds that you want the animation effect to last.
• (Maximum: 59 seconds. Minimum: .01 seconds. You can type a duration or
use the up or down arrows to select a standard incremental value.) Change how the animation effect starts • On the slide, select the animation effect that you want to change. • On the Animations tab, under Timing options, open the Start list, and choose one of the three options described below: Select To start the animation effect
On Click When you click the slide
At the same time as the previous
animation effect in the list. (One click With Previous starts two or more animation effects at the same time.)
Immediately after the previous
animation effect in the list finishes After Previous playing. (No additional click is required to make this animation effect start.) Set the time between animation effects • The Delay option determines how much time elapses before a specific animation effect begins— either after you click or after a prior animation effect concludes. • On the slide, select the animation effect that you want to change. • On the Animations tab, under Timing options, in the Delay box, specify an amount of time in seconds. Change the order of the animation effects on a slide • To reorder a set of animations on a slide: • Open the Animation pane: On the Animations tab, in the Advanced Animation group, select Animation Pane. • In the Animation pane, select the animation effect that you want to reorder. • On the Animations tab of the ribbon, in the Timing group, under Reorder Animation select one of these options: Select Move Earlier to move the effect up one place in the animation order. Select Move Later to move the effect down one place in the animation order. You can select an option multiple times, if necessary, to move your selected effect to the appropriate place in the animation order. Remove an animation effect • When you animate an object, a small numerical marker appears just to the left of that object to indicate the presence of an animation effect and its place in the sequence of animations on the current slide. Select the numeral of the animation that you want to remove. Press the Delete key on your keyboard. For more information, see Change or remove an animation effect. Copy animation effects from one object to another • Avoid having to manually animate several objects in the same way: Use the Animation Painter to copy animation effects from one object to another.
