Radiology Information System (RIS) is networked software that manages medical imagery and workflow in radiology departments. RIS provides patient management, scheduling, tracking, reporting, image handling, and billing functions. It evolved from basic report coding systems in the 1960s-1970s to incorporate new server and database technologies in the 1980s.
