most important of all Egyptian gods.

 Roman Mythology: Cupid
2. Saga or Legend

 Primitive history: they contain a gem or seed of


historical fact and enlarge upon It with great
flourish

 The best example of a saga or a legend in the story


of the war at Troy.

3. Folk-Tale or Fairy-Tale
 Myths of this species tend to be examples of primitive
fiction. Tales of this sort are told for pleasure and
amusement.

 1.Folk tales are orally transferred from one generation to


another, while fairytales are written literature.
 2.Folk tales reflect real-life events, while fairytales
involve magic and mythical creatures.
 3.Both types of literature are instructive.
 4.There is more active conflict resolution in folk tales
than in fairytales.
 5.Fairytales are more aristocracy-inclined than folk tales.

Aesop’s Fables
A collection of fables under the name of Aesop over 2,000
years ago in Greece.

Aesop lived in the mid-sixth century and was a slave and


that he was killed by the people of Delphi, perhaps for
seditious or sacrilegious beliefs.

Also known as The Arabian Nights is a collection of


stories and fables in Arabia, Egypt, India and Persia that
were compiled from oral tales that had been passed down
through these cultures for generations.

Myths and legends are usually sourced from the existing epics of
the different cultures of the world.

Epic - A long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral


tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or
legendary figures or the history of a nation.

The Poems of Heslod
Heslod is one of the earliest Greek poets, often called the “Father of Greek didactic
poetry.

He may first have been a rhapsodist learning the technique and and vocabulary.

Rhapsodist – a professional reciter of poetry.

Theogony – concerning the origin of the world and the genealogies of the gods.

Works and Days – describing peasant life, dealing with the agricultural seasons.
