Objectives: at The End of The Lesson The Learners Should Be Able To

The document outlines the steps to perform synthetic division of polynomials: 1. Write the division problem and reverse the sign of the constant in the divisor. 2. Perform the successive multiplication and addition steps, bringing down coefficients. 3. The results provide the quotient and remainder of dividing one polynomial by another using synthetic division.

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:

a. apply the steps of synthetic division by solving the polynomial equation.
b. solve the division of polynomials using synthetic division.
Division of Polynomials Using Synthetic Division

• Synthetic division – is a method performing with less writing and

fewer calculations than occur with polynomial long division.
• Polynomial- poly means “many” and nomial means “parts (terms)”.
1. Write down the problem.
2. Reverse the sign of the constant in the divisor.
3. Write all of the coefficients.
4.Bring down the first coefficient.
5.Multiply the first coefficient by the divisor and place it under the second coefficient.
6. Add the second coefficient and the product and write the answer bellow the product.
7. Multiply the sum by the divisor and place it the answer under the third coefficient.
8. Add the product and the third coefficient and write the answer under the product.
9. Multiply the number by the divisor and add it to the last coefficient.
10. Place each of the coefficients next to a variable of one less power than their original corresponding
variables.
