A Vision of excellence
Cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens in the eye. This blocks
the light from reaching the retina and causes unclear vision. As the
cataract progresses, it causes hazy vision and may interfere with your
daily activities.

Cataract usually develops in people older than 45 years of age and as

the vision deteriorates, the only available treatment for cataract is
surgery.

Dry Eye Treatment

It normally presents with irritation, grittiness and foreign body sensation in the eye. It
is caused by a wide variety of conditions. Evaporative dry eye is commonly seen in
people who typically work more than 8 hours on computer screens. Dry eye is also
seen in people suffering from thyroid and joint related disorders, as well as, in people
using medication for neurological disorders.

Retina Vitreous
The Vitreoretinal Service at Shroff Eye Centre offers expertise in the diagnostic, medical and
surgical retina. Diagnostics forming the backbone of every successful treatment, we provide a very
advanced small pupil fundus camera for Fundus Fluorescein Angiography and a precise Optical
Coherence Tomography system. Treatment of all retinopathies affecting the eye due to diabetes,
hypertension, vascular malformations, and age-related macular degeneration is possible with laser and
anti-VEGF injections or surgery depending on the requirement.

The retina laser service houses an advanced Argon-Laser System for Retinal Photocoagulation and
also the Photo Dynamic Therapy laser system for treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
The department also boasts of the latest Optos imaging system which helps in pan imaging of
the retina. For Surgical treatment the department is equipped with the advanced Micro Incision
Vitreous surgery system and with its team of expert surgeons caters to advanced retina surgery

Uveitis Ocular Inflammation

Uveitis is characterized by inflammation of the inner coats of the eye. Patients complain of pain,
redness, and diminution of vision. Uveitis is often associated with diseases that affect the rest of the
body.

It is commonly associated with disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sarcoidosis. Viral
infections and Tuberculosis are also associated with Uveitis.

Cornea Treatment

The Cornea is the outermost transparent layer of the eye.

Corneal blindness accounts for 0.52% of total blindness in the Indian subcontinent. The cornea can be
the site of various disorders ranging from whitening of the cornea due to degenerations and
dystrophies to abnormalities of corneal shape including Keratoconus. Treatment strategies for these
disorders include Corneal Transplant surgery, Auto-grafting for Pterygium and Corneal Collagen Cross-
linking with Riboflavin (C3R) for Keratoconus .

Our Story
With a unique legacy of a 100 years and 4 generations of providing quality eye
care to the community, Shroff Eye Care Center today is a super-specialty center
synonymous with state of art equipment and the highest level of professional
excellence and ethical values in ophthalmic care.

The Shroffs have been pioneers in the field of professional eye care in
northern India. The foundation for excellence in eye care was laid by Dr.
S. P. Shroff, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, U.K.
who started Ophthalmological work in Delhi in 1914. By 1926 he had
established “Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital” at Daryaganj, Delhi, the
first hospital of its kind in northern India, equipped with the best
instruments and facilities available at that time.

The tradition was carried forward by his son, Dr. Minoo Shroff and
subsequently by his grandsons, Dr. Noshir Shroff and Dr. Cyrus Shroff at
Shroff Eye Centre.

With the joining of Dr. Daraius Shroff and Dr. Rushad Shroff the legacy
continues in the fourth generation. Motivated by the vision of Dr. S.P.
Shroff, the eye care center is committed to providing patients with the

In 1978, Dr Noshir Shroff joined Shroff Eye Centre as Medical Director & Partner and
started Cataract & Intraocular Lens (IOL) Implant services, as well as Refractive Surgery
services. He has been a pioneer in the field of intraocular lens implantation surgery in India,
having performed his first implant surgery in 1982.

Dr Noshir Shroff was also one of the first in the country to start Phacoemulsification, in
1992. He is also a pioneer amongst the keratorefractive surgeons, having performed
thousands of surgical procedures including, PRK, LASIK, LASEK, Epi-LASIK, and Intralase
(Bladeless Lasik surgery).

Dr Noshir Shroff takes a great interest not only in improving techniques and protocols of
ophthalmic practices but even in the actual design of the instruments for better
performance. Some of his ideas have to lead to innovations which have facilitated cataract
surgery.

Dr Noshir Shroff has won numerous awards and has held prominent positions in several
medical societies. He has delivered many keynote addresses and presentations at National
and International conferences and published papers in journals and contributed chapters in
Ophthalmic Texts. He is actively involved in the Diplomate National Board (DNB)
programme for training young ophthalmologists.
