ABSTRACT

This project emphasizes on proposing a design of Solar PV Thermo-Electric Generator

Hybrid system with its monitoring system using IoT. The project involved focusses on using
the waste heat of the PV panel in order to decrease its temperature by using a thermo-electric
generator (TEG) which also leads to increase in the photovoltaic module conversion efficiency.
In addition a real time monitoring system is needed to check the viability and performance of
the system. Internet of Things (IoT) technology is used for supervising hybrid power generation
which enhances the monitoring, maintenance and performance of the system or plant. It
increases the ease of implementation too since it gives output without manual handling of the
multi-meters.

Methodology
• The proposed system consists of hybrid PV-TE generation system connected to
monitoring system. In generating system, we have PV panel and Thermo-electric
generator which are giving DC supply to the battery and load. This generating system
is connected to the Arduino through current and voltage sensors. Arduino is a micro
controller which is used to read the sensor values. Arduino is connected to the Wi-Fi
module ESP8266 through USB cable. The data from the Arduino is displayed on the
web page through the Wi-Fi module
Hardware Used:

 Hybrid PV Thermo-electric Generator system

 ESP8266(Wifi)
 Voltage sensor
 Current Sensor
 Battery
 Display

• Software Requirements:
 Arduino IDE
 Programming language
Project Action Plan
Action Plan consists of two stages:

• Stage 1: Generating System.

Firstly we will design generating system which consists of Hybrid PV Thermo-Electric
Generator System.

• Stage 2: Monitoring System

Secondly implementation of real time monitoring system using IoT will be done to the
generating system to evaluate the data. It can greatly enhance the performance, monitoring and
maintenance of the system.
Implementation of IoT

• Step 1: PV Panel along with TE Generator feeds the input as current and
voltage to their respective sensors.
• Step 2: Arduino receives the obtained sensor values through its respective
pins.
• Step 3: Node MCU acts as a Wi-Fi Module which is connected to an internet
connection.
• Step 4: Serial Transmission takes place between Arduino and Node MCU.
• Step 5: Node MCU stores the current and voltage values.
• Step 6: Blynk application is used to display these values in appropriate
graphical representations.
• Step 7: The parameters are monitored on a real time basis.

CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORK

• Implementing Renewable Energy technologies is one recommended way of reducing the

environmental impact. Because of frequent power cut it is important to use renewable
energy and monitoring it. Monitoring guides the user in analysis of renewable energy
usage. This system is cost effective. This enables the efficient use and thus it is reducing the
electricity issues.
• Also Thermo-electric generator within the PV-TE hybrid system is to act as a heat pump.
Heat Pump as a cooling function can recover the PV cell efficiency by 25–40% for the PV/TE
system. It is shown that PV module’s power output within the configuration of the PV-TE
hybrid system increases up to 39% under fixed thermal input conditions relative to the PV
module’s operation in absence of TE generator.
• This project can be further enhanced by using the results of this current project, i.e. the
monitoring values obtained are helpful in predicting the future values of the parameters
considered. The data stored in cloud can also be analysed using the MatLab. The web
application can be developed for interaction with the end user; the user can also predict values
of the future events. In the same way we can go for android application also. By using various
Machine Learning algorithms and model it is possible to make system smart enough to take
decision about data and performance.
• Also single and dual axis tracker can be implemented to increase the efficiency of PV system.
• On a large scale, monitoring system can be integrated with an industrial PLC and digital power
meters to form a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for a hybrid TE-PV
battery renewable energy system.
