A standard operating procedure (SOP) is a set of step- by-step instructions compiled by an organization to help workers carry out complex routine operations. The Aim of SOP SOPs aim to achieve efficiency, quality output and uniformity of performance, while reducing miscommunication and failure to comply with industry regulations. Documentation that states the reason for the standard operating procedure is an essential element. This documentation should define the SOP's purpose, what it explains, whom it applies to and whom it excludes. For example, if you are writing a standard operating procedure for your human resources department, identify that it applies to HR employees but excludes personnel from other departments who have separate standard operating procedures to abide by.
