INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES

What is an Interview?
• The word interview comes from Latin and middle French words
meaning to “see between” or “see each other”.

• Generally, an interview means a private meeting between people


when questions are asked and answered.

• The person who answers the questions is called in


the interviewee. The person who asks the questions is called an
interviewer.

• It suggests a meeting between two persons for the purpose of


getting a view of each other or for knowing each other.

Telephonic Interview

• A telephonic interview is an interview for employment conducted on


the phone.

• Telephone interviews are often used to screen candidates in order to


narrow the pool of applicants who will be invited for in-person
interviews.

• While you're actively job searching, it's important to be prepared for


a phone interview on a moment's notice.
Tips To Attend The Interview

• First and the most important thing you need to do is select a


place which is quite and where there is no one to disturb.

• Make sure your phone network is proper, you definitely don’t


want your interview to go bad because of network issues.

• Do not eat, drink, chew gum, or do anything of that sort during


the interview process.

• Make sure to inform your family and friends not to call you
during the slot that you are expecting an interview call.
• Have a glass of water nearby.

• Stay focused, listen carefully.

• Keep your answers short.

• Do not interrupt the interviewer.

• Make notes.

• Make sure you speak with a right tone.


Face-To-Face Interview

• Face-to-face interview is a data collection method when the


interviewer directly communicates with the respondent in
accordance with the prepared questionnaire.

• This method enables to acquire factual information, attitudes,


preferences and other information coming out during the
conversation

• First impression is the best impression. The way you dress for an
interview plays an important role. The dress you wear is a
reflection of your personality. Dress to impress.

• Research about the company. Know everything there is to know


about the company. Also know about the job that you are applying
to.

• Anticipate the questions that could be asked and practice them.

• Arrive to the venue before time.


• Be confident.

• Maintain a composed body posture

•Answer to the point.

• Say ‘I don’t know’ when you don’t know the answer to a


question.

• Always have a smile on your face.

Group Interview/Group Discussion

• A group interview is a screening process where you interview


multiple candidates at the same time.

•The point of a group interview is to see how candidates choose to


stand out from each other, how well candidates function in a
group of people they do not know and if candidates show the
teamwork attributes that you need.

• A group interview should not be confused with a panel


interview, which is when multiple interviewers screen a single
employment candidate.

• Initiate the Group Discussion.

• Allow others to speak.

• Be very clear when you speak.

• Listen to what others have to say.

• Do not go too deep into the topic or drift away from the topic.

Video Interview
•A video interview is a job interview that takes place remotely and
uses video technology as the communication medium.

•A video job interview is similar to an in-person interview, but it


cuts costs and saves time for both the interviewer and interviewee.
They have become a common process of hiring.

• Video interviews can take place people sitting at any corner of


the world and hence there is no geographical constraints, is time
efficient and easy.

• Some of the software's used for this interview are Skype, Face
time, etc.

• Make sure your audio and video are working before attending the
interview.

• Be confident and always have a smile.

• Be prepared. Have an idea of what you are being interviewed for.


Practice with a few mock interview.

• Make sure you have no disturbance during the interview.

• Do not have a flashy background.

Lunch or Dinner Interview

• The lunch or dinner interview is less common than a traditional


interview but it is still used.

•Companies like lunch or dinner interviews because it is less formal


and job candidates tend to be more open, relaxed, and less guarded.

• It also gives interviewers a chance to see many other non-verbal


characteristics of a candidate.
