Here is a draft paragraph: The main difference between a chemical and physical change is whether new substances are formed. A physical change only alters a material's physical properties like shape, size or state, but the material's chemical makeup remains the same. For example, cutting paper changes its shape but not its chemical identity as paper. Crushing an aspirin tablet changes its size but not its chemical makeup as aspirin. In contrast, a chemical change produces one or more new substances through a chemical reaction. Burning wood forms ash and gases like carbon dioxide and water vapor. Rusting metal transforms iron into iron oxide. Breaking down water into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis is also a chemical change as it produces different substances.

Physical and Chemical

Changes
A Write On Activity
Objective: Chemical/Physical
Change: Differentiate
 The learner will be able to
(ESSENTIAL) distinguish
between a physical and
chemical change.
Matter
 Matter is everywhere.
 Matter is anything that takes up
space and has mass.
 Matter is constantly experiencing
both chemical and physical
changes.
Physical Change
 Physical changes occur when
matter changes its property but not
its chemical nature.
 Physical property changes could
include a change in: texture, shape,
size, color, odor, volume, mass,
weight, and density.
Physical Change
Chemical Change
 Chemical changes are changes
matter undergoes when it becomes
new or different matter.
 To identify a chemical change look
for signs such as color change,
bubbling and fizzing, light production,
smoke, and presence of heat.
Chemical Change
 A chemical change
occurs when fireworks
are used. Fireworks
are made of metals
such as magnesium
and copper. These
change chemically as
they light up the sky.
