Mathematics (T)

1. The document discusses Pick's theorem, which provides a formula for calculating the area of lattice polygons as area=i+b/2-1, where i is the number of interior points and b is the number of boundary points. 2. It outlines a methodology involving drawing polygons, calculating their areas using the formula, observing patterns to conjecture a general formula, and using equations to verify the formula. 3. The results and conclusions confirm that the formula area=i+b/2-1 correctly calculates the areas of polygons and is proven to be the general formula as stated in Pick's theorem.

INTRODUCTION
Pick theorem provide a formula for the area of
any lattice polygon.
It states that area=i+b/2-1 where (I stands for
number of points in the interior of the shape,b
for number of points on theboundary of the
shape)
METHODOLOGY
QUESTION 1:
A)DRAW 20 POLYGON WITH DIFFERENT (B)AND(I)
B)CALCULATE THE AREA OF THE POLYGONS BY USING FORMULA
QUESTION2:
OBSERVE THE PROGRESSION AND WRITE OUT THE CONJECTURE FORMULA
FOR THE AREA OF POLYGON
QUESTION3:
USED EQUATION AX+BY+IZ+T=O TO FIND CONJECTURE FORMULA FOR THE
AREA OF POLYGON
QUESTION4:
DRAW THREE POLYGO WITH B>6AND I>4 POINTS
CALCULATE THE AREA OF THE POLYGON BY USING GENERAL FORMULA AND
CONJECTURE FORMULA
RESULTS
1.DRAW 20 POLYGON WITH DIFFERENT NUMBER OF I AND
B.THEN CALCULATE THE AREA AND FILL IN THE TABLE
Calculate the area of polygon with 3 boudary
point
After calculate the area of lattice polygon by
using general formula.Fill in the table
2.We can solve question 2 through the observation from the table that we
had completed by find out a conjecture formula for the area of polygon.
For example for polygon with 6 interior points
The formula is A=I+2
While for polygons with 4 boundary points
The formula is A=B/2+3
Solve this problem by using simultaneous equation
A=I+2 …(1)
A=B/2+3…(2)
Let A=6
6=i+2,i=4
6=B/2+3,B/2=3
6=4+3-1
Thus A=i+b/2-1 is a conjecture formula for the area of the polygon
3.This is another way to find out a conjecture formula for area of polygonBy using
equation:ax+by+iz+t=0
Seem like by using the formula a=i+b/2_1,the area of polygon are exactly the same
with the area which fill in the table from question 2.Thus this show that a=i+b/2-1 is a
conjecture formula for the area of a polygon
4.Draw three polygon with B>6 AND I>4

Calculate the area by using general formula and

compared to the area that find by using conjecture
formula formQ2 and Q3
These are the solutions of calculate the area of polygon by
using general
Seem like we find that the area of polygon with
i>4 and b>6 by using general formula also
exactly the same with the area of polygon that
found with using conjecture formula.
Conclusion
QUESTION 1:
A)DRAW 20 POLYGON WITH DIFFERENT (B)AND(I)
B)CALCULATE THE AREA OF THE POLYGONS BY USING FORMULA then fill in the table
QUESTION2:
OBSERVE THE PROGRESSION from the table to obtain THE CONJECTURE FORMULA
FOR THE AREA OF POLYGON
QUESTION3:
USED EQUATION AX+BY+IZ+T=O TO FIND CONJECTURE FORMULA FOR THE AREA OF
POLYGON and compared it with the area which had fill in the table
QUESTION4:
DRAW THREE POLYGO WITH B>6AND I>4 POINTS
CALCULATE THE AREA OF THE POLYGON BY USING GENERAL FORMULA AND
CONJECTURE FORMULA.Then compare each other to prove the conjecture formula

Through all these question I had proof that the conjecture formula which is a=i+b/2-1
can be use to find out the area of lattice polygon.This is already stated in the pick
theorem
