Presentation 1

The document discusses the basic principles of electric generators and describes different types of DC generators. It explains that an electric generator converts mechanical energy to electrical energy by inducing an emf when a conductor cuts magnetic flux. The document then lists the main types of DC generators as separately excited, self-excited, and types of self-excited generators including series, shunt, and compound generators.

iNTRODUCTION

An electric generator is a machine which converts

mechanical energy into electrical energy
An electric generator is based on the principle
that,”Whenever magnetic flux is cut by a conductor, an
emf is induced in it will cause a current to flow, if the
conductor circuit is closed. The direction of Emf is given by
Flemings right hand rule.”

TYPES OF DC GENERATORS
DC generators are of following types :
1. Separately excited DC generator : A DC
generator whose field magnet winding is
supplied from an independent external DC
source (battery) is called separately excited DC
generator
2. Self excited DC generator: a DC generator
whose field magnet winding is supplied current
from the output of the generator itself is called
self excited generator.
this are of following types:
1. series generator
2. Shunt generator
3. Compound generator
