Distribution Transformer Application
Distribution Transformer Application
TRANSFORMER
APPLICATION
• Distribution transformer are used to
reduce primary system voltage (2.4-
34.5kV) to utilization voltages (120-
600V).
IIEC (International Electrotechnical
Commission) standard does not
distinguish between distribution
transformer and power transformer
They are all power transformer in the sense
that there purpose is to transmit power
from one voltage to another.
Traditionaly transformer that transform the
voltage down to the domestic consumer
voltage (usually 400V but in Phil is 220V) are
called distribution transformer.
Types of transformer
Common Material Used for Transformer
-Special type thing magnetic steel plates.
-Copper or Aluminum.
-High density paper and pressboard.
-Mineral oil.
Difference between Shell type and Core
transformer.
-Winding of core tpye enclosed to the core.
The core of Shell type enclosed the winding.
-Looking to the core type, the windings are
well visible, but they hide the core limbs.
Only the upper and lower yoke of the core
are visible
-In Shell type the core hides the major part of
the winding.
-The axis of the core type winding is normally
vertical while horizontal or vertical in shell type.
-Core type is much more used than shell type
transformer in this days
Example
1.)A 150kVA 3phase transformer supplies 2300V at
0.87 lagging power factor . The transformer winding
is 0.02 resistance and 0.05 reactance . Determine the
voltage regulation of the transformer at this load .
2.) Given: VL=3300V;Ep=2294.085.
Find the voltage regulation of a transformer?3
phase Transformer.
Formula=%VR=Ep-Vp/Vp
631.) Given
S=200kVA;VL=2300V;Rp=0.2;Xp=2 3
phase Transformer at 0.87 lagging power
factor.Find the voltage regulation of the
transformer?
NETWORK TRANSFORMERS
-Vault Type Transformer suitable for occasional
submerged operation.
-Subway Type Transformer suitable for frequent or
continues submerged operation.
Problem.
An ideal 220/110 transfomer carried a 6+8i ohms
load at 110V side.Under this condition, calculate
the current in the 220 side?
Formula E1/E2=I2/I1
