Cacw Coolers (Generator Air Cooler)

The document summarizes different types of coolers: - CACW coolers consist of tubes held in plates with water flowing through the tubes and air flowing over them. Tubes are spaced for efficient performance and water boxes provide multiple water passes. - PLUG-IN coolers have tubes plugged into bearing housings with oil flowing over the tubes. - OFWF coolers have an inner sheath around baffles to prevent bypassing of shell-side fluid and an O-ring prevents oil bypass through annulars. Oil and water flow cross-flow through the tubes and over baffles. - OFAF coolers have finned tubes held in plates with oil flowing through

CACW COOLERS (GENERATOR AIR

COOLER)
The cooler consists of a bank of tubes. Tube ends are held in
tube plates on which inlet, outlet and return end water boxes
are mounted.
The tubes are secured in the tube plates by roller expanding.
The arrangement provides for flow of cooling water through
tubes whereas hot air flows over the wire
wound tubes in a cross flow manner.
The wire wound tubes are pitched/spaced to give the most
efficient performance. Depending upon the water
availability, water boxes are internally divided to provide
multiple water passes.
PLUG-IN TYPE COOLERS

As the name suggests, PLUG-IN coolers are

plugged inside bearing housing, dipping the tubes
completely in oil of the housing. The cooler
consists of a bank of u bend wire wound tubes.
The ends are held in the tube plate and ‘U’-bends
are supported in support plate fixed in frame. A
fabricated water box is mounted on tube plates
which has inlet and outlet connections
OFWF COOLERS

These coolers are of special construction incorporating an

outer shell housing a tube nest enclosed in an inner sheath,
which is a thin sheet of metal-wrapped around baffles,
makes the arrangement far more superior because of a close
fit that can be maintained between baffles and sheath
preventing bypassing of any portion of shell side fluid.
Which otherwise becomes unavoidable in conventional shell
and tube heat exchangers without sheath consequent to
compulsory manufacturing clearances between shell and
baffles. The by-passing of oil through annuals between shell
and sheath is prevented by a neoprene ‘O’ ring housed in a
machined dovetail groove provided in a steel ring welded
inside the shell. The arrangement provides for flow of
cooling water through tubes whereas oil flows over the tubes
in a cross flow manner guided by doughnut and disc baffles
spaced alternatively equidistant all along the length of tubes.
OFAF COOLERS
The cooler consists of a bank of tubes. Tube
ends are held in tube plates on which inlet and
outlet oil chambers are mounted. The tubes are
secured in the tube plates by roller expanding.
The tubes are supported at the suitable place(s)
to avoid resonance, vibration and sag. The
arrangement provides for flow of oil through
tubes whereas air flows over the finned tubes in
a cross flow manner. The finned tubes are
pitched / spaced to give the most efficient
performance. Depending upon the oil flow, oil
chambers are internally divided to provide
multiple oil passes.
