Poultry Vocabulary:

• Cock : Male chicken


• Tom : Male Turkey
• Hen : Female
• Pullett : Female under six months, non laying
• Capon : Neutered male chicken
• Broiler : Raised for meat
• Layer : Egg production
• Gestation : Chicken: 21 d; Turkey 28 d
• Production : usually 1 egg per day
• Comb : Red tissue on top of head
• Wattle : Red tissue hanging under beak: paru

Getting Started
• Purchase chicks from a feed store/toko or

Raising Chicks

• Keep chicks at 90-95°F until about six


weeks of age.
– At six weeks, decrease the temperature 5 degrees
per week until you reach 70 degrees. ;6minggu potongan

temperatures go belowdbawah70°.

Housing Poultry

house dry.

Facilities
• Egg production flocks/brkumpul will need a nesting/sarang facility.

dry/kering.

material.
