The document discusses unemployment among engineers in India. It notes that only 7% of engineering graduates are employed according to a survey, and only 3% possess the skills required for core sector jobs. Around 80% of engineers are unemployable and 85% find jobs unrelated to their major. The recession has made it difficult for employers to hire new graduates and has led to many recent graduates facing unemployment. The document aims to analyze the impact of unemployment on engineering graduates through a survey and suggest solutions to address the current scenario.

Unemployment among

Engineers

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA(HUM1039)

OBJECTIVE

To find the connection between the high rate of

unemployment among engineers from an
engineers perspective and compare it with the
general norm.
Need for the project

Today, unemployment is up, jobs are scarce, and layoffs have

become common across the organizations.

Engineering graduates passing out from educational institutions have to fulfil

modern and high standard requirements that are needed by industry. In
today's arena the most common word we come across is recession. Recession
leads to a decreased demand for goods and services, which in turn leads to a
decrease in production, lay-offs and rise in unemployment. The present paper
projects the impact of unemployment on engineering graduates at the time of
recession.
The recession is seeing many recent engineering graduates suffering in the
employment arena. With
more people being laid off from their jobs every single day, it makes it
difficult for employers to take on new graduates

In India based on 2016-2017 AICTE data there are 3415 institutions which
offer engineering and architecture courses at undergraduate level.

Only 15% of the engineering programmes offered in India are accredited by

NBA.

There are 416 Governement Colleges in India and,123 Deemed Universities

and 282 Private Universities
Engineering in India

:- Around 85% engineers find jobs other than their core
(major) subject.

• From the data draft suggest a solution to the
current scenario and present a report including
all external factors.
