WHAT IS A PARAGRAPH?

• A paragraph is a collection of
sentences dealing with a single topic.

• It should be unified, coherent, and


well-developed.
COMPONENTS OF A PARAGRAPH
• TOPIC SENTENCE – An idea which you can
and usually express in one sentence.
• Main idea of a paragraph.
• it is the statement of the paragraph
itself.
• Sets the limits and states the subject.
• Maybe be found at the beginning , in the
middle or at the end of the paragraph.
MAJOR SUPPORT IDEAS

• TELL SOMETHING NEW OR DIFFERENT


ABOUT THE TOPIC.
Concluding Sentence

• ENDING LINE OF THE PARAGRAPH.


• IT SHOULD RESTATE THE MAIN IDEA
OF THE PARAGRAPH.
MINOR SUPPORT IDEAS
• CONTRIBRUTE MORE DETAILS ABOUT EACH
MAJOR SUPPORT SENTENCE IN ORDER TO
MAKE IT UNDERSTOOD.
• CLOSELY RELATED TO BOTH MAJOR
SUPPORT SENTENCES AND CENTRAL IDEA.
Adequate Development
• SHOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH DETAILS,
ILLUSTRATIONS, EXAMPLES, COMMENTS OR
OTHER IMNFORMATION IN ORDER TO
ARRIVE TOPIC SENTENCE ADEQUATELY.
