COACH
Is a person involved in the direction, instruction
and training of the operations of a sports team or of individual sports people. Coaching Roles Athletics hold an important place in our society. The coach is at the center of this important place in athletics. The coach’s position carries a great deal of responsibility and has a powerful influence on the athletes with whom they deal. The roles of the coach are diverse in that the coach must wear many hats in performing his/her duties. The roles that you will find you undertake as a coach will be many and varied and you will find at some stage in your coaching career that you will be, but not limited to: Demonstrator
Demonstrate to the athletes the skill you require them to
perform. Counsellor
Resolving emotional problems on the basis that sharing
anxieties can be both relieving and reassuring. Assessor
Assessing athletes performance in training and in
competition. Advisor
Advising athletes on the training to be
conducted and bring suitable kit and equipment. Advise on what areas need to be Improved. Friend
Over the years of working with an athlete a personal relationship is built
up where as well as providing coaching advice you also become someone, a friend, who they can discuss their problems or share their success with. It is important to keep personal information confidential because if you do not then all respect the athlete had for you as a friend and coach will be lost. Facilitator
Identify suitable competitions for them to compete in to
help them achieve their overall objectives for the year. Fact finder
Gathering data of national and international results
and to keep abreast of current training techniques. Fountain of knowledge - This may be part of the advisor role in that you will often be asked questions on any sporting event, events that were on the television, diet, sports injuries and topics unrelated to their sport. Mentor
When athletes attend training sessions you are responsible, to

It has often been said that good coaches are good
teachers . Indeed, good coaches teach their players how to practice, manage their time, work with their teammates, handle adversity, etc. Good coaches are able to motivate their pupils because they form deep relationships with them. They know what buttons to push because one has an intimate relationships with his players, that is when the most effective coach occurs. Instructors

“discipline”, may be defined as the condition of athlete behavior
in which the coach must maintain for the team. They guide and set of standards that will spell out behaviors in the team. The most appropriate form of discipline for the athlete is sel-discipline in which the coach and the athlete must strive for this goal. Social Worker
the coach is always in the limelight of the community. How a
coach conducts himself or herself in the public is how the community will view him/her and his/her team. One must cultivate a positive working relationship with all representatives of the media and the public. One must also be well versed in the use of the written word, the spoken word, and the visual media in dealing with the public. Manager
we placed the coach in the role of a leader by virtue of one
position. He must have the ability of bringing people into the leader’s way of thinking and behaving, and having them agree that this way is the correct path to follow. He must have the clear picture of task, understands the make up of the group, and has a plan for accomplishing the task that is within the ability of the group. Lastly, one will have to decide which leader behaviors are central to the concept of his/her leadership styles Trainer
being a coach carries a tremendous amount of responsibility. So
many people are looking for guidance, motivation and someone to believe in them when they believe in themselves the least. Simply put, whole world wants and needs more great coachers. Coach as trainers, they not just impart knowledge, but they lights inside of someone. STUDENT
