The human development index is a statistic that ranks countries based on indicators of life expectancy, education, and income. It was created by Dr. Mahbub-ul-haq to assess countries' success in key areas of human development - access to resources, health, education, equity, sustainability, productivity, and empowerment. However, the HDI has weaknesses such as omitting some important dimensions, using questionable assumptions, and ignoring inequality.
