Inscribed Angle

1) The document discusses inscribed angles and their relationship to intercepted arcs on a circle. It states that the measure of an inscribed angle is always half the measure of its intercepted arc. 2) Steps are provided for determining the measure of an inscribed angle by measuring its intercepted arc and comparing the two measures. Moving the endpoints does not change the fact that the inscribed angle's measure is half the intercepted arc. 3) Key theorems are stated about inscribed angles: their measure equals half the intercepted arc; congruent intercepted arcs mean congruent angles; an angle intercepting a semicircle is a right angle; and opposite angles of an inscribed quadrilateral are supplementary

INSCRIBED ANGLE
• An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on a
circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle. The
arc that lies in the interior of an inscribed angle and has
endpoints on the angle is called the intercepted arc of
the angle.

Follow the steps and find out how to determine the
measure of the inscribed angle.
• STEP 1: Create a circle.
• Step 2: Create an inscribed angle
• Step 3: Measure the intercepted arc and as well as the
inscribed angle.
• Step 4: Compare the measure of the intercepted arc and
the measure of the inscribed angle.

The measure of the inscribed angle is

one half of the measure of its intercepted
arc.
• Step 5: Try to move the end points on the circle to change
the measure of the inscribed angle. Does the measure of
the inscribed angle still one half of its intercepted arc?

 The measure of the inscribed angle is still

one half of the measure of its intercepted
arc.
Theorem on Inscribed Angle
• 1. If an angle is inscribed in a circle, then the measure of the
angle equals one-half the measure of its intercepted arc (or the
measure of the intercepted arc is twice the measure of the
inscribed angle).

• 2. If two inscribed angles of a circle (or congruent circles)
intercept congruent arcs or the same arc, then the angles are
congruent.

• 3. If an inscribed angle of a circle intercepts a semicircle, then
the angle is a right angle.

• 4. If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, then its opposite
angles are supplementary.

• B. If m EB = 86o , what is m∟ECB?
• C. If m∟BED = 92o, what is m∟DCB?
• D. If CE is a semi-circle, what is m∟EBC?
• E. If DC ≈ EB and mDC = 60o, what is m∟ECB?
