Brain Finger Print

Brain Fingerprinting is a technique that measures electrical brain wave responses to determine if specific information is stored in a person's brain. It was invented by Lawrence Farwell and has an error rate of less than 1%. The technique presents words or images on a computer screen while measuring brain waves through electrodes on the scalp. It works by detecting a P300 MERMER signal, which indicates a brain response when recognizing familiar stimuli. India has adopted this technique for investigating white collar crimes.

 Brain Fingerprinting is a computer based technology

designed to determine hidden information in

individual’s brain by measuring electrical brain wave
responses to words, phrases or presented on a
computer screen.
 Brain Finger was invented by Lawrence Farwell.
 Brain Finger Printing has an error rate of less than 1%.
 India has become the second country after United
States to introduce brain finger printing for detection
of white collar crimes.
WHAT IS BRAIN FINGER
PRINTING?
 Brain Fingerprinting is a controversial proposed investigative
technique the measures recognition of familiar stimuli by
measuring electrical brain wave responses to words phrases
or pictures that are presented on a computer screen.
 Brain Fingerprints are measured by an EEG Event-Related
potential , a P300-MERMER.
 Brain Fingerprinting is a scientific technique to determine
whether or not specific information is stored in an individual’s
brain.
 He hypothesized that the brain processes known or relevant
information differently than unknown or irrelevant
information.

Measures
 Brain Fingerprinting method is based on an electric
signal which is known as MERMER or Memory and
Encoding Related Multifaceted Electro
encephalographic.
 A MERMER is a electrical signal which is a part of the
brain wave observed in responses to familiar
information.
 When the brain recognizes something, then there is
increase in neurons activity, so elicit some changes in
neurons activity, so elicit some changes in brain wave
signals.
MERMER METHODOLOGY
Stages of brain finger
printing

 Crime Scene evidence collection.

 Brain evidence collection.
 Computer evidence.
 Scientific result.
Instrumental requirements

 PERSONAL COMPUTER:
-A data acquisition board
-A graphics card for deriving two
monitors
-A four-channel EEG amplifier system
-Software develop
 FINGER PRINTING LAB
HOW IT WORKS?

 Brain Finger Printing method uses a signal which is

known as MERMER (Memory and Encoding
Related Multifaced Electroencephalographic)
 A sequence of work phrase or picture is presented
on video monitor to the subject, wearing a special
head bond designed for detecting the brain wave
responses.
LIMITATIONS

 Brain Finger Printing information processing

brain response that reveal what information
is stored in the subjects brain.
 It simply detects information.
APPLICATION

• Counter terrorism
• Medical diagnosis
• Advertising
• Criminal justice
CONCLUSION

It would be Inappropriate to generalize the

result of the present research because of all the
small sample of subject. But the 100% accuracy
and high confidence level of the results, however,
provide further support for results from previous
research using brain MERMER testing.
