where,
ξ=Damping Factor
ωn=Undamped Natural Frequency
Roots of the second order is given by:
s1,s2= -2ξωn+ √((4ξ2wn2) - 4wn2 )
2
=-ξω + ω √(ξ2-1)
n n
if ξ=0 Undamped system,then s1,s2=+ jωn
0<ξ<1 Underdamped condition system,then s1,s2=-ξωn + jωn√(1-ξ2)
ξ>1 Overdamped condition system ,then s1,s2=-ξωn + ωn√(ξ2-1)
ξ=1 Critically damped condition, then s1,s2=- ωn
When ξ=0
i.e for undamped condition,
C(s)=(1/s) . (ωn2/(s2 + ωn2)
On solving the partial
equation,we get
C(s)=(1/s)-(s/(s2 + ωn2)
therefore,
c(t)=L−1(c(s)) Fig1: Graph representing undamped
second order system
=1-cos(ωnt)
The transfer function is given as T(s)=9/(s2+9) and the input applied
is unit step response.
C(s) = 9/(s2 + 9)
R(s)
where R(s)=1/s
therefore,C(s)=1 . 32 . where ωn =3
s (s2 +32) ξ=0
On solving the above eq. using
partial fraction ,
we get A=1 and B=-j3
therefore the roots s1,s2=+ 3j
C(s)=1/s - s/(s2 +9)
On laplace inverse of C(s) we
get,
c(t)=L-1 (C(s))
=1-cos3t Fig.2 Representation of poles and the graph
representing the undamped system
General eq : 1-coswnt
When 0<ξ<1 for underdamped condition,roots produced by the denominator will be
complex and conjugate
And on solving C(s) using
partial fraction we get
therefore,C(s)=1 . 32 . where ωn =3
s (s +(-1+j8))(s+(-1-j8) ξ=0.33
therefore,roots are given as
s1=-1+j√8
s2=-1-j√8
On taking the laplace inverse
of the given equation we get,
c(t)=1-e-t(cos√8t+√8/8sin√8t)
Graphb representing the poles and the
underdamp curve of the given system
if ξ>1 the roots for the following equation will be
s1,s2=-ξωn + ωn√(ξ2-1)
where R(s)=1/s
C(s)=4/((s2+5s+4) x1/s.........(2)
The roots of the following eq. (s2+5s+4) are
s1 =-1 and s2 =-4, hence the nature of the roots are real and distinct
On solving eq.2 using partial fraction, we get
C(s)=(1/s)-4/3(s+1)-1/3(s+4)
Taking Laplace inverse we get
c(t)=1-(4/3)e-t -(1/3)e-4t
Hence the overdamped system has a general eq. of
c(t)=K1 -K2e-s1t -K3e-s2t
All the poles will be present on the left side of the s-plane
