PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
3 Domains of Human development:
Physical development - covers the growth of
the body and brain, motor and sensory skills,
and even health
Cognitive development – which covers our
capacity to learn, to speak, to understand, to
reason, and to create
Psychosocial development- includes our
social interactions with other people, our
emotions, attitudes, self-identity, personality,
beliefs and values
Human development is influenced
by:
Heredity – the inborn traits passed on by the
generations of offsprings from both sides of
the biological parents’ families
Environment – is the world outside of ourselves
and the experiences that result from our
contact & interaction with this external world
Maturation – the natural progression of the
brain & the body that affects the cognitive,
psychological and social dimensions of a
person
Personality Development or
Personal Development
Personal is defined as belonging or relating
to a particular person; made or designed to
be used by one person; relating or affecting
a particular person.
Personality – the set of emotional qualities ,
ways of behaving that makes a person
different from other people;attractive
qualities that makes a person interesting or
pleasant to be with
Development –

Adolescence
Is the transition period between childhood
and early adulthood
3 Stages of Adolescence:
1. early adolescence- 10 to 13 yrs. of age
2. middle adolescence- 14 to 16 yrs. of age
3. late adolescence – 17 to 20 yrs. of age
Adolescence starts with the biological changes
called puberty. The physical body undergoes
growth spurts at this time, for both male &
female, leading towards physical maturity
