Prepositions

• A preposition is a word written before a noun or


pronoun.
• It connects a noun or pronoun to the other
words in the sentence.
• Most of the time, these are words that show the
location of persons, animals, or things.
• Examples: in, on, at, to, under, between, above,
among, over
The cat is _____ the girl and the boy.
The cat is between the girl and the boy.
Between is used when
referring to two persons or
objects.
The dog is ___ the box.
The dog is in the box.
We use in if the thing is
inside of something.
The cat is ___ the chair.
The cat is on the chair.
We use on when the thing
is on top of something.
The girl is hiding ___ the table.
The girl is hiding under the table.
We use under when the
thing is below of
something.
The sheep jumps ____ the fence.
The sheep jumps over the fence.
We use over to indicate a
path of motion.
There are birds ___ the tree.
There are birds above the tree.
We use above to refer to
a higher level or higher in
vertical line.
