History of Badminton

Badminton has origins dating back over 2000 years to ancient China, where a similar game involving kicking shuttlecocks was played. The modern game of badminton developed in India in the 1800s under the name "Poona" or "Poonah" and was brought to England where it was known as "battledore and shuttlecock". The Badminton World Federation was formed in 1934 to govern the sport internationally. Badminton gained popularity and became an official Olympic medal sport starting in 1992.
