Turbo Generators & Exciters BHEL Haridwar, Production Block-1, HEEP

Turbo generators and exciters are used to generate electricity in large power plants. They consist of a stator, rotor, and ventilation system. The stator contains a core and winding assembly that acts as an electromagnet. The rotor is coupled to a turbine and produces flux when turned. Generators are cooled using closed-circuit air, hydrogen, water, or combined cooling systems depending on their size and power output. Exciters are used to produce DC current and automatically control the generator's voltage level.

 Location:-

Complex is situated in
the foot hills of shivalik
range in Haridwar
district of Uttaranchal
state.
 Stator Frame:-
 Flexible core suspensions
components, core and stator
winding.

 Consist of cylindrical frame housing

to flanged rings and ribs.

 The outer casing is of gastight and

pressure resistant welded
construction.

 Housing and ribs made up of non-

magnetic steel to prevent eddy
current losses.
 Stator Core:-

 The stator core is stacked with
insulated electrical sheet steel
laminations with a low loss index.

 To remove the heat, a large
number of spacer segments,
placed at intervals along the
bore length.

 The stator core and winding
assembly is mounted in the outer
casing by means of welded
springs.
 Acts as an Electromagnet.

 Coupled to Turbine rotor to take the

driving torque and thus produces a

flux.
 Two Types of Rotor :
Forged Steel Rotor
Laminated Rotor

 Used to produce DC

 PMG mounted on the common shaft which generate electricity.

 Automatically decide magnitude of current using AVR (Automatic
Voltage Regulator).

 Ventilation systems:
Closed circuit air cooling with water or air coolers mounted in the pit.
Closed circuit hydrogen cooling with water or hydrogen coolers
mounted Axially on the stator frame.
 Cooling System :

Air cooling system(60MW)

Hydrogen cooling(100MW)
Water cooling(500MW)
Water and hydrogen cooling(1000MW)
