The history of computers began around 2000 years ago with the invention of the abacus in Babylonia. The history of computers starts out about
2000 years ago in Babylonia
(Mesopotamia), at the birth of the
abacus, a wooden rack holding two
horizontal wires with beads strung on
them. Blaise Pascal is usually credited for
building the first digital computer in 1642.

today had its beginning with a
19th century English

WHAT IS COMPUTER?

A computer is a machine that can be


instructed to carry out sequences of
arithmetic or logical operations
automatically via computer
programming. Modern computers have
the ability to follow generalized sets of
operations, called programs. These
programs enable computers to perform
an extremely wide range of tasks.
 A "complete" computer including the hardware, the
operating system (main software), and peripheral equipment
required and used for "full" operation can be referred to as a
computer system. This term may as well be used for a group of
computers that are connected and work together, in
particular a computer network or computer cluster.

 Computers are used as control systems for a wide variety of


industrial and consumer devices. This includes simple special
purpose devices like microwave ovens and remote controls,
factory devices such as industrial robots and computer-aided
design, and also general purpose devices like personal
computers and mobile devices such as smartphones.
INVENTORS OF COMPUTER

 CharlesBabbage- KH FRS
(/ˈbæbɪdʒ/; 26 December 1791 – 18
October 1871) was an English
polymath.[1] A mathematician,
philosopher, inventor and
mechanical engineer, Babbage
originated the concept of a digital
programmable computer.
 Alan Mathison Turing- OBE FRS (/ˈtjʊərɪŋ/;
23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) was an English
mathematician, computer scientist,
logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher and
theoretical biologist.
 Douglas Carl Engelbart- (January 30, 1925 – July 2,
2013) was an American engineer and inventor, and
an early computer and Internet pioneer. He is best
known for his work on founding the field of human–
computer interaction, particularly while at his
Augmentation Research Center Lab in SRI
International, which resulted in creation of the
computer mouse, and the development of
hypertext, networked computers, and precursors to
graphical user interfaces.
