A schedule is a timetable showing


planned work days and shifts for
nursing personnel.
Factors to Consider in Making a
Schedule

1. Different levels of the nursing staff


2. Adequate coverage for 24 hours, 7
days a week
3. Holidays
4. Weekends
5. Long stretches of working days
6. Evening and night shifts
7. Floating 8-5

The personnel schedule should be
so constructed that when
employees should change from one
shift to another, they have
sufficient day off time between
the end of one shift and beginning
of the next.
 Types of Scheduling

1. Centralized Schedule
2. Decentralized Schedule
3. Cyclical Schedule.

Centralized Schedule

Centralized staffing involves a system


whereby a master plan is developed at
the top level .

Decentralized Schedule

In decentralized staffing, the


managers of nursing units can
develop schedules.

Cyclical staffing is a centralized system
in which workdays and time off for
personnel are repeated in regular
cycles, such as every 4 weeks .

1- Each unit is covered by 3 shifts for 24 hours
a day and 7 days a week.
2- Each nurse works at most one shift a day.
3- Each nurse must have day off after ending
night shifts.
4- Each nurse works not more than 4
consecutive days.

Each nurse works not less than 2 consecutive


days.
Maximum days worked: 4
Minimum days worked: 2
Number of split days off each period: 2
X: Scheduled day off
Operates in multiples of 4, 8, 12
28- 8= 20/3= 7 or 6
