UNIT4 Uniformly Accelerated Motion

This document discusses uniformly accelerated motion and projectile motion. It introduces important units like velocity, distance, time, acceleration, and force. It presents formulas for final velocity, distance, and displacement. Sample problems demonstrate how to use the formulas to calculate distance, velocity, and other values. Projectile motion is discussed, noting that objects follow a curved path under gravity. The maximum horizontal range is obtained at a projection angle of 45 degrees.

UNIT 4

MODULE 1: Forces And Motion

Uniformly Accelerated Motion

From your previous grade levels,you were able to

quantify non-uniform motion.In this module,you will
MATHEMATICALLY describe the horizontal and vertical
dimension of Uniform Accelerated Motion(UAM).
Important Units
you need to learn in this Module
Velocity= m/s
Distance= m
Time= s
Acceleration= m/s²
Force= kg m/s²
Different Formulas
you need to learn in this Module
Vf=Vi + (a)(t)
Where:
Vf=Vi² + 2(a)(d) Vf-Final Velocty
d=Vi(t) + ½ (a)(t)² Vi-Initial Velocity
a –Acceleration
d=(Vf+Vi) (t) t –Time
d -Distance
2
Uniformly Accelerated Motion:
Horizontal Dimention
If a body maintains a constant change in its velocity
in a given time interval along a straight line,then the
body is said to have uniform acceleration.
For example,a car that steadily increase its velocity
every 2 seconds,say from 35km/hr to 45km/hr then to
50 km/hr and so on.The change in velocity is constant
at 10 km/hr for eery second
SAMPLE PROBLEMS
1) An airplane accelerates from rest on a runway at
5.50m/s² for 20.25s until it finally takes off the
ground.What is the distance covered befre
takeoff

Given
a=5.50 m/s² t=20.25 s Vi=0m/s²
Solution
Formula: d=Vi t+ ½ (a)(t) ²

d=(0)(20.25s)+1/2(5.50m/s²)(20.25s) ²
= (0) + ½ (5.50m/s²)(410.06s)
= ½ (2255.33)
= 1127.67 m
Uniformly Accelerated Motion:
Vertical Dimension
Gravity acts on all objects.So on Earth,all objects
being thrown up,will go down.Things thrown upward
always fall at a constant acceleration which has a
magnitude of 9.8m/s².This means that the velocity of
an object in a free fall changes by 9.8 m/s² every
second of fall.
When an object is thrown upward,as the object goes
up,it decelerates with a magnitude of 9.8m/s² until it
stops momentarily(its velocity will be 0m/s²) & changes direction
SAMPLE PROBLEM
1)Zed is playing with a ball on top of a building but
the ball fell and hit the ground after 2.6 seconds,
what is the final velocity of the ball just before it
hits the ground and how high is the building?

Given:
Ag=9.8 m/s ² Assume Vi=0m/s t=2.6 s
SOLUTION
For velocity For distance

Vf=Vi+(Ag)(t) d=Vi t+ ½(9.8m/s ²)(2.6s)²

Vf=0+(9.8m/s²)(2.6s) d= ½(9.8m/s ²)(2.6s) ²
d=33.12m
Vf= 26 m/s
Bye!!!!
Motion in Two Dimensions
(PROJECTILE MOTION)
Do you play Volleyball & Basketball? You might
describe that the ball is moving horizontally in this
sports. However the ball does not have a straight
path.
The ball traces a curved (PARABOLIC) line in the air.At
the same time,the ball is moving horizontally;and
moving vertically due to gravity.In this case,the ball
is said to be undergoing PROJECTILE MOTION.
A projectile is an object initially thrown into the
air and continues to move on its TRAJECTORY(Curved
path travelled) acted upon by gravity.
When you throw a ball at a certain angle from the
ground,it will cover a definite distance.The maximum
horizontal distance that a projectile covers from its starting
point to its endpoint is called RANGE

R A N G E
Projectiles thrown with the same speed at
different projection angle will have different
altitudes and ranges
-The maximum range obtained is a 45⁰
-in the Presence of air resistance, the trajectory of a high
speed projectile falls short of a parabolic path
