APPENDIX 1-B

GUIDELINES AND
IMPLEMENTING RULES ON
EARTHQUAKE RECORDING
INSTRUMENTATION FOR
BUILDINGS

BY: RAMOS, XYRELE JOY

ASUNCION, MAIDELLE
PURPOSE:

• To provide information on the specifications and uses of

earthquake recording instruments.
• To provide earthquake instrumentation schemes for
certain buildings.
To record response during major seismic events
To give adequate analysis of building response during
earthquake
OBJECTIVE:

To improve understanding of the actual dynamic behavior

of buildings under earthquake loading and confirm the
design according to the NSCP.
• The recorded data can be use to improve the structural code
thereby reducing loss of lives and limbs as well as properties
during future damaging earthquakes.
• Earthquake recording instrumentation is also called
accelerograph (I.R.R.).
PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF
ACCELEROGRAPH:
PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF ACCELEROGRAPH:

1. Structural health monitoring and recording.

To record the dynamic response of the building during
earthquake

2. Provide intermediate alarm annunciation

To move the building occupancy safety.
THE ACCELEROGRAPH MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE
OTHER BUILDING SYSTEM LIKE:
• PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM
THE ACCELEROGRAPH MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE
OTHER BUILDING SYSTEM LIKE:
• FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
THE ACCELEROGRAPH MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE
OTHER BUILDING SYSTEM LIKE:
• ELEVATORS
THE ACCELEROGRAPH MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE
OTHER BUILDING SYSTEM LIKE:
• GAS LINE AND WATER LINE
PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF ACCELEROGRAPH:

3. Secondary disaster management system

Other calamities that can happen during an earthquake like
explosion from gas leak that will cause fire.

4. Upgrade building codes and disaster management

To improve the structural code
