The Good Samaritan PowerPoint

Jesus told a parable about a man who was traveling and was attacked by thieves, robbed and left injured. Two religious leaders passed by the injured man but did not help him. A Samaritan man, though from a group disliked by Jews, helped the injured man by treating his wounds, transporting him to an inn and paying for his care. Jesus used the parable to teach that the neighbor we should help is anyone in need, regardless of personal attributes or social differences.

When someone asked Jesus what He meant by “love thy

neighbour”, He started to tell him this story.

A Jewish man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho.

He was attacked by thieves on a lonely road. They beat
him and stole his money and clothes. They left him to die.
After a while a priest passed by. When he saw the injured
man he crossed to the other side of the road and walked
quickly away.
Sometime later another priest came along. He also saw
the injured man. He also crossed to the other side of the
road and walked quickly away.
Eventually a third person came along the road. This man
was a stranger from another country called Samaria. The
Jews had always treated the Samaritans as enemies. But
when the Samaritan saw the wounded man he felt sorry
for him and stopped to help.
He put bandages on his wounds and lifted the man onto
his donkey. He took him to an inn and looked after him
there.

The next day the Samaritan gave the innkeeper some

money. He asked him to look after the injured man.
When Jesus finished his story, he asked the person which
one of these men was the good neighbour? The man
replied that the one that had helped was the good
neighbour. Jesus said that all people should be friends
with each other.
FOR YOU TO DO:
•Write a modern day version of the Good
Samaritan story to convey the importance of
each individual's role and participation in our
communal, global fight against poverty and
injustice.

•Reading and responding to the signs of the
times is an urgent call of living our faith
today. Love of God and love of neighbour
are one. Discuss ways your school responds
to social justice issues in the world?
