MACBETH MEMES

BY JACKSON PASCHALL AND BRENNEN FENTON

• ”I have done the deed. Didst thou no hear a noise?” II.II.1 - Macbeth
• This Meme shows how Macbeth was not happy with his current position
as Thane of Cawdor and wanted to be King. At first Macbeth was
happy with his position, but Lady Macbeth convinced him that King of
Scotland would be better so they devised a plan to kill Duncan so he
could become King.
• ”Hath rung nights yawning peal, there shall be done/ A deed of
dreadful note” III.II.43-44 – Macbeth
• This meme pokes fun at Macbeth because of the killing spread is on in
the book. First, he killed Duncan, to take his throne, next he killed the
guards out of his ”rage” because the guards “murdered” Duncan, and
finally he sent people to kill Banquo and Fleance because he felt they
were a threat to to his throne. We then see Macbeth prepare war at
the end of Act III.
• “ Soundly invite him- his two chamberlains/Will I with wine and wassail
so convince/That memory, the warder of the brain” I.VII.63-65 - Lady
Macbeth
• This meme shows how instead of just killing Duncan, Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth devised a plan to kill him and not get caught. They plan to kill
Duncan in his sleep and smear his blood on his guards and frame them
for his death.
• “I’ll go no more/ I am afraid to think what I have done/Look on’t again I
dare not” II.II.49-51 - Macbeth
• This meme shows Lady Macbeth mocking Macbeth because he forgot
to leave the daggers with the guards and doesn't want to go back to
return them. Lady Macbeth realizing they have come to far to get
caught, takes one for the team and goes and returns the daggers with
the guards.
• “What will we do? Let's not consort with them/To show an unfelt sorrow
is an office/ Which the false man does easy. I’ll to England/ To Ireland, I
our separated fortune” II.III.137-140 – Malcolm and Donanlbain
• After their father was murdered, Malcolm and Donalbain agreed with
each other that they were not safe, since whoever killed their father
will probably try to kill them next. They decide to flee the court.
Malcolm goes south to England, and Donalbain goes to Ireland.
Suspicion of the murder fell on the two princes because they fled
Scotland.
• ”O horror, horror, horror! Tongue nor heart/ Cannot conceive nor name
thee” II.III.65-66 – Macduff
• This meme hypothetically shows dead King Duncan after he was
murdered by Macbeth. Macbeth selfishly planned to kill Duncan so he
could have the throne to himself. Macbeth framed Duncan's guards for
the murder and got away with it for a little while.
