Welcome

to
KTDC!
An introduction
to your course
Four parts of the IELTS
exam
• Listening
• Reading
• Writing
• Speaking
Our main focus in class
• Speaking: it’s difficult to have a conversation
alone
• Writing: most students need a lot of practice
on this area
What about listening
and reading?
We will also practice these areas in class, BUT…

• It’s much easier to work on these skills alone,

so most of your practice should be at home.
• We will focus on repeating a small number of
the most useful techniques.
Repeat, repeat, repeat…
In class, we introduce you to IELTS information
and techniques.
You will need to practice everything many, many
times at home to really learn.
Your teacher’s job
• Teach information and techniques
• Set up practice activities
• Give feedback
How we teach
• As little lecturing as possible
• Lots of pair work
• Feedback to improve performance
• Plenty of repetition
Rules for all students
1. Tiếng Việt!
2. On time is late. Arrive five minutes early.
3. No food
4. No mobile phones
5. Name cards
6. Homework
Your job
“You can take a horse to water, but you can’t
make it
drink.”
And that means…?
• The teacher is responsible for teaching, but
only you can produce learning.

So…
Your job
• Speak English, try your best, and come to
every class with a good attitude.
• Use feedback to improve your performance.
• Do your homework and review everything.
• Work on your weaknesses at home.
If you miss a class
• At the beginning of the next lesson, ask your
teacher for the materials.
• Discuss what you missed with your partner
for five minutes.
• If you know you will be absent in advance, tell
your teacher – in person or by email.
Important points in the
course
• Class 1 – introduction to the course
• Class 32 – review lesson
• Classes 33-36 – Speaking tests

• One Sunday morning (around 9am-midday)

near the end of the course – Listening, Reading
and Writing tests
Can I move up to the
next level?
Your teacher will decide based on:
• Your attendance and punctuality
• Your participation (including doing
homework) and attitude
Can I move up to the
next level?
Your teacher will also consider:
• Your progress over the course, including your
response to feedback
• Your exam scores at the end of the course
End of course feedback
At the end of the course, we will ask for your
feedback on your experience at KTDC.
This helps us to improve.
