The Food & Nutrition Program
Planning and Management Cycle refers to the natural sequence in the way programs and projects are planned and carried out. Definitions of Terms Food and Nutrition Planning – an attempt to identify, develop, implement and evaluate a range of policies and programs which have as priority objectives improvement of the nutritional status.
Management- A means to achieve or solve problems
Goals – broad definition of what we wish to achieve
usually long range and composed of sub-objectives.
Targets- usually connotes numbers to be resolved within
a time period e.g. Number and kinds of beneficiaries. Definitions of Terms Projects- a detailed plan usually part of a specific program and maybe made up of specialized detailed sub-plans.
Program- a multi-purpose detailed plan somewhat
broader than most single purpose plan.
Strategy- plots the course of action on the directions
set.
Policy- provides conceptual framework/guidelines as

Phase I- Planning Appraisal and Design
This phase covers the identification of
feasible solution to food and nutrition problems and appropriate design of each alternative in line with a set of policy goals The Food & Nutrition Program Planning and Management Cycle
Phase II- Selection, Approval, and Activation
During this phase, decision makers
evaluate the alternatives laid down in.
The mode of action to carry out are

Phase III- Operation and Control
This is the most crucial phase because this is the stage in project evaluation where one can see whether set goals and objectives are realized or not. The Food & Nutrition Program Planning and Management Cycle
Phase IV- Evaluation and Refinement
The main concern of management at this stage is the analysis of outcomes for the purpose of generating information that will provide useful insights for replanning present projects and in formulating better plans for the future. Steps in Food and Nutrition Planning and Management The efficiency in the use of resources and the effectiveness of food and nutrition programs/ projects in achieving its objectives are, to a large extent, determined by the quality and amount of efforts devoted to planning.
