Accessibility
Apps
Apple devices let you write a text or email
without seeing the screen. You can take a
perfect group selfie just by hearing how many
faces are in the frame. Using these features may
feel like magic, but it’s very much by design.

Accessibility is an important issue. One group of
people that are especially affected by the lack of
accessibility are people with disabilities. It is
important that people with disabilities (sensory
or physical) can effectively use iPad or other iOS
devices.
Speech Selection
•Speak Selection: Speak Selection will read your texts out
loud in websites, email, messages that you highlighted. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND

•Speak Auto-text: This will type the spoken word and offer
corrections on words that were not understood as clearly.
Large Text
•Large Text makes the text bigger in some built-in applications
such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages, and Notes.
•Use the Large Text feature to enlarge the font size of text. You
can go up all the way to 56-point text. Turn Large Text on
through the Accessibility menu in Settings.
Zoom

•Zoom is an accessibility feature that

makes everything from text to icons to
interface elements bigger and easier to
see on the iPhone and iPad. Zoom
magnification defaults to 200% but can
be set from 100%-500% to help
anyone with low vision of any level.
VOICEOVER
•Voice Over is a screen reader that describes
what’s happening on your device so you can
navigate by listening and performing gestures.
Voice Over's speaking rate and pitch can be
adjusted to fit your needs.
•Voice Over can be read in 36 languages. You can
also connect Braille via Bluetooth.
Invert Colors

•Some people prefer their display in higher contrast. If you are

one of those people, you may consider using the Invert Colors
option, which changes your iPad display to white on black.
•Like Zoom, this works across all apps, and it can also be used
with Zoom and Voice Over. Turn it on in your same
Accessibility menu in Settings.
•White on Black: reverses the colors on the screen to create
contrast.
