Construction Field Works

Construction fieldworks involve various tasks performed on construction sites. For light construction like residential buildings, common fieldworks include carpentry, plastering, scaffolding, formworks, masonry, steel reinforcement, concrete works, roofing, electrical works, piping, tiling, glass installation and painting. Heavy construction fieldworks for larger projects include rock excavation, blasting, paving, pile driving, installing cofferdams, caissons and dewatering activities. The specific fieldworks depend on the type and scale of the construction project.

What is a construction fieldworks?

• Anythingthat comes under field work in

construction besides paper works.
Common Construction field works
• Surveying

• Clearing and Layout

• Earthworks

• Formworks and Scaffolding

Common Construction field works
• Concrete works
• Steel works
• Masonry works
Construction fieldworks depend
on:

• The type of construction project

 Light Construction
 The construction that refers to standard rafters,
wood stud walls, and floor and ceiling joists. This
type of construction mostly refers to residential
buildings.
Construction fieldworks depend
on:

 Heavy Construction
 Involve the placing and/or removing of large
quantities of natural and human-made materials, such
as airports, highway, treatment plant, and dams.

Both depends on the method used in construction

Light Construction Field Works
• Carpentry
• Plaster works
• Scaffolding works
• Form works
• Masonry works
• Steel Reinforcement works

• Roofing works
• Electrical works
• Piping works
• Tile works
• Glass works
• Painting works
Light construction field works

• Carpentry
 Construction of
works by
processing or
applying wooden
materials or
application of
wooden structures
to work.
Light construction field works

• Plaster works
 Applying, spraying, or
affixing plaster, mortar,
stucco, cement, fibers,
etc. to work
Light construction field works

• Scaffolding works
 Assembly of
scaffolding,
transport and
placement of heavy
objects, such as
mechanical
apparatuses and
construction
materials, assembly
of steel frames, and
demolition.
Light construction field works

• Formworks
 is temporary or
permanent molds
into which concrete
or similar materials
are poured.
Light construction field works

• Masonry works
 Masonry is the
building of
structures from
individual units,
which are often laid
in and bound
together by mortar
Light construction field works

• Steel
reinforcement
works
 Installing
processing,
connecting, and
assembly of steel
bars and other
steel materials.
Light construction field works

• Concrete works
 Construction work
using concrete
Light construction field works

• Roofing works
 Roof-cladding with
tiles, slate, or
metal sheet.
Light construction field works

• Electrical works
 Installation of
power generation,
transformer, power
distribution, and
interior electrical
facilities
Light construction field works

• Piping works
 Work for
installation of
coolers, air
conditioners, water
supplies, hygiene
facilities, and
facilities for
transport of water,
oil, gas, and steam
using metal pipes
Light construction field works

• Tile works
 Construction with
brick or concrete
blocks or work to
apply or attach
bricks, concrete, or
tiles to structures
Light construction field works

other medium to a
solid surface.
Heavy Construction Types

works
 Hard rock tunnel
boring, cutting,
drilling and blasting
Heavy Construction Types

• Paving works
 Excavation and
area grading to the
desired grade and
drainage.
 Placement and
aggregate base
course compaction.
 Asphalt mix
application to finish
the surface.
Heavy Construction Types

• Pile driving
 Piles are installed
by either driving,
drilling, vibration or
jacking.
Heavy Construction Types
• Cofferdams
 Cofferdams is a
temporary structure
designed and
constructed to support
ground and keep
groundwater or water
above ground level away
from an excavation.
Heavy Construction Types
• Caissons
 A Caisson is a watertight
structure used for retaining
water in order to work on the
foundations for bridges, piers,
and other structures. Generally
speaking, the water is pumped
out to create a completely dry
work environment. Some
caissons can be open-air
caissons, whereas others may
use compressed air to keep the
mud and water out. Installation
involves pushing it into the
mud, until it reaches clay or
another solid foundation.

Dewatering
 Dewatering and construction
dewatering are terms used to
describe the action of
removing groundwater or
surface water from a
construction site. Normally the
dewatering process is done by
pumping or evaporation and is
usually done before
excavation for footings or to
lower water table that might
be causing problems during
excavations.
