“He invested our money in

some kind of fruit

company”
- Forrest Gump

Anna Muižniece
• Lt. Dan made the investment in ‘’The fruit company’’
a.k.a. Apple in 1976, however Apple went public
(distributed shares to be traded in the market) only in
1980. That means that Forrest was “angel investor” – he
funded Apple while it was still a small startup
• We don’t know how much of the shrimping money Lt.
Dan invested but considering Bubba Gump success, we
can assume it was around 100,000 USD. (And let’s
assume that he invested when Apple went public in
1980. Apple didn’t have to provide its financial data to
public before)
• This is what happened to share prices after Apple went
public :
0,51 USD
1,10 USD
318,73 USD
If Forrest invested $ 100,000 in 1980 in
Apple (~196,078 shares) :

• By 1983 stock price was up 115% → Forrest’s

investment is worth
$ 215,686

• Since 1980, stock price has gone up 62396% →

Forrest’s investment is now worth…
$ 62,496,076

Remember that Forrest invested even before Apple went public which means that his returns would be even higher
TOP 5 richest man in The World

4. Warren Buffet 5. Forrest Gump

Net worth: $ 67.5 B Net worth: $ 62.5 B
But things for Apple haven’t always been so good
Apple’s stock’s price movements on September 29th, 2000:
Apple’s stock price
dropped from $26 to $11
in one trading day - more
than 50% drop

This happened because

Apple reported revenue
that was much below the
expected

Many investors got

scared of this huge one-
day drop and sold their
shares – missing out on
the huge gain that came
after 2000
This is a good example of how easy it is to miss out on good
opportunities if the wrong situations are approached with the
wrong mindset
My mama always said ‘Life is like a box of chocolate. You never
know what you’re gonna get.’
– Forrest

From time to time we should remind ourselves that life really

is like a box of chocolate and we can only do our best to stay
humble while eating ours. (And maybe that’s the key to
getting in the list of top 5 richest man in the world)
