convention of the language use relate to other aspects of social behavior.
HOW CAN SOCIOLINGUISTICS IMPORTANT

1. The way you talk (pronounciations, word


choice, grammar) says something about
your social identity.
2. There are strong social beliefs and attitudes
associates with certain ways of speaking.
3. These attitudes are social norms, not
objectives facts about language itself.

view of language in use. It looks at
society from the point of view of and

one variety. This is actually an idealized An accent is the way that
variety, because it has no specific region.
It is the variety associated with particular person or group of
administrative, commercial and people sound.  It’s the way
educational centers, regardless of region. somebody pronounces words, the
musicality of their speech, etc.

A dialect describes both a
person’s accent and the
grammatical features of the way
that person talks.

Idiolect is (linguistics) the language variant


used by a specific individual.

Sociolect is the variant of language used by


a social group such as a socioeconomic
class, an ethnic group, an age group, etc.
