Device variants

A device variant can be generated as follows:

 Plug & Play connection to a SIPROTEC 4 device

 Import device data
 Generate a variant of an existing SIPROTEC 4 device
( at DIGSI Manager)

Module 5A: DIGSI 4 - Introduction TASK FORCE SIPROTEC 4 Page - 19

DIGSI 4
Copies/Variants

A selected relay can be copied:

 „Edit > Copy“ and „Edit > Paste“
 The new relay comes up
 Note: The new relay has a new internal address
 Original and copy are different

For a selected relay a variant can be generated:

 „Edit > Create variant“
 The new relay variant comes up
 Note: The variant has the same address as the original relay. Original and
variant are not different!

Module 5A: DIGSI 4 - Introduction TASK FORCE SIPROTEC 4 Page - 20

DIGSI 4
Copy versus Variant

A relay must be copied, when there are two ore more relays of the
same type and the parameters should be copied.

In this case the new relay must be initialised first (to get a new
internal address/ VD address).

For a relay a variant must be created, when there are multiple

parameter settings are required for one relay.

The relay has to be initialised only once, because the variants have
all the same address.
