VARIABLES SELECTED FOR THE STUDY
The following parameters of sports facilities were decided to be selected for the better
conduct of study:
• Sports equipments.
• Sports infrastructure.
• Human resources
• Organization/participation in sports events.
The scale consisted total of four parameters and each parameter have 16-30 items.
Each parameter further has three components for the better analysis of selected sports
facilities parameters.
• Frequency
• Quality
• Level of satisfaction
Each parameter has five levels of opinion regarding the Frequency of use, Quality and Level
of Satisfaction. Respondents can fill number (1-5) which represents level opinions for
frequency, Quality and Level of satisfaction. ( Frequency:“Never Used”, “almost never
used”, “Occasionally Used”, “Almost every time used” or “Frequently used”) (Quality:
“Poor”, “Fair”, “Good” , “Very good” or “Excellent”) ( Level of Satisfaction: :“Not
Satisfied”, “Slightly Satisfied”, “Moderately Satisfied”, “Very much Satisfied” or “
Extremely Satisfied”) according to their opinion or actual status of sports facilities in their
school. ..\thesis final form\reviews for presentation.docx

Education and Sports
Sampling technique: Sciences
Sampling involved stratification of the government and private schools of Delhi as
per the division parliamentary electoral constituencies, which divide Delhi into
seven constituencies with number of schools in each constituency. Four
government and four private schools from each constituency were selected to be
the part of present study. Ten students and one physical education teacher from
each school were selected to be part of the present study.

Selection of Respondents: 560 students and 56 physical education teachers of

different government and private schools were selected for the study, which is of
different standards i.e. of X TO XII class. Ten students and one physical education
teacher from each school become part of the present study.

– Collection and screening of the Items.
• In the process of collection of items by the researcher three sources
namely: (1) Existing scale (2) The description of these areas in
psychology and available literature and documents (3) Discussion
with person working in the field, were used. For the present
investigation the second and third sources was fully utilized. The
researcher collected the available literature, past research studies
and documents on sports facilities and sports promotion. Further all
the things were discussed with the experts in the field of education,
and in evaluation. On the basis of the past research studies,
literature, documents and the discussion with experts’ person
working in this field, the researcher constructed 360 items for the
preparation of the scale to measure the frequency of use, Quality
and Level of satisfaction for each research parameter i.e. sports
equipments, sports infrastructure, sports personnel and sports
events organization and participation in schools of Delhi.

• For constructing the items, it was observed that the items depicting
the facts should be included in the preparation. The formatting of the
items should be simple, so that even the beginner can read, and
understand the statements. Therefore, the items of tool were
presented in tabular form and only three common statements for all
the items were included for each parameter included in study. After
preparing the items, it is necessary to screen them form the view
point of wording and whether it draw out data for utility of sports
facilities and their impact on sports promotion. For this the
researcher with the help of guide screened the items. Certain items
were accepted and some were edited. In this way, 360 items were
selected to be the pre-pilot form the scale. The items were prepared
in English and thus the pre-pilot form the scale was prepared.

13

• For the step of judges’ agreement of the pre-pilot form of the scale to
assess utility of sports facility and their impact on sports promotion, the list
of judges consisted of members from different walks of the life like,
educational officer, physical education teachers, assistant professors, and
Experts from Physical education field. The judges were requested to tick
mark (√) against the appropriate column whether they “accept” or
“Uncertain” or “reject” with each statement. Keeping in mind the item should
be helpful in providing data regarding utilization of sports facilities. Beside
this, the judges’ agreement was carried out under the objectives which are
given below:-
• To see whether selected parameters are appropriate for the study.
• To see whether the items can provide data regarding frequency of use,
quality and level of satisfaction.
• To see whether the data will be helpful in assessing the impact of sports
facilities over sports promotion.
• To see whether the instruction of the scale was proper.
• To see whether the illustration in the scale was perfect.
• To decide the total time would be required to administer the scale.

Reliability of the scale.

• It is very essential to obtain the final evidence of the reliability of the scale.
Its means should be established; no matter how carefully the scale was
planned and prepared. It is therefore necessary that this step be performed,
to check and its’ results be reported to users of the test to enable them to
evaluate better. In short a scale must a scale must show sufficient
evidences of its reliability. A scale without the items of its reliability would be
of a little value.

• 616 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents as

mentioned above. Scholar visited personally and
established contact with the schools. Data was also
collected at the time of Zonal Sports Tournaments
conducted by Delhi Government for School Students in
each Zone.

• Along with a questionnaire, research scholar attached a

consent letter seeking their cooperation and requesting
them to furnish the necessary information true to their
knowledge wilingly.

Statistics used for Data analysis

• To compare the status of each parameter between government and
private schools of Delhi Mann-Whitney Test was administered,
before administering Mann-Whitney test Two-Sample Kolmogorov-
Smirnov Test will also be administered to check the normality of the
obtained data. Further, the information collected through the
questionnaire was analyzed with the help of Chi square test for
assessing the relationship of each item listed below sports facilities
parameters to Government schools and Private Schools of Delhi
• Further to assess the impact of sports facilities researcher used

Analysis of Data and Result of the study

The statistical tools used in the study to test the entire

hypothesis(s) were kolmogorov-smirnov test, mann
whiteny U test, Chi square test of independence, and
Effect Size power of the test. The rationale using these
statistical analysis tools stems from the fact, that the data
captured in the study for independent variables are
qualitative in nature and best suited for non-parametric
tests.

and introducing one or more independent variables in the research design such as summer
camp, sports oriented timetable, incentives and awards for excelling in sports.

• Similar study could be possible adding few more variable, Socio economic condition,
gender condition and age in the research design to find more insightful outcomes.

• Longitudinal study could be done in possible consideration of results of sports events

participation throughout year, in the research design to find more insightful outcomes
regarding impact of utilization of sports facilities.
