SDG-4 aims to provide equitable, inclusive, and quality education for all by 2030. While India has seen improvements in primary school enrollment and female participation in secondary education, transition rates to higher education remain low. Dropout rates for boys beyond secondary school are also high due to economic pressures and lack of interest. There are also challenges like a focus on rote learning over skills, teacher shortages, and inadequate training and financing. The government is taking initiatives to address these issues through programs like Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and improving access to education resources with digital tools. However, improving learning outcomes and ensuring all students achieve basic skills remains a work in progress.

SDG-4 on education requires equitable ,inclusive and quality education
for all by 2030.
STATUS OF EDUCATION in INDIA
1. Gross enrolment rate has increased in primary schools. 2. Remarkable progress in female participation upto secondary education is high . 3. Transition rate from secondary to senior secondary and higher education is still low. 4. Dropout rate for boys beyond secondary school is high so retention is a problem due to a) Economic activities b) Financial constraints and lack of interest. 5. Pupil teacher ratio appears to be satisfactory there are sufficient teachers the problem is balanced deployment based on student strength i.e school with more enrolment have more teachers & vv. Learning outcomes: Improving the quality • As per the ASER report there has been gradual increase in both literacy and numeracy in class 3 students but still 25% reaches to grade level(basic arithmetic operation). • 1 out of 4 children leaving class 8th are without basic reading skills (ability to read at least at class 2nd ). CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION SYSTEM:- 1. Focus is on rote learning and finishing the curriculum not on learning outcomes. 2. Lack of quality teachers and shortfall in government schools (more than 9 lakhs vacancies at elementary level). 3. No regular inspection, supervision and inadequate training and delay in availability of finance are some other factors plaguing the system as per the PGI(performance grading index) is concerned. Government initiatives:- • Samagra shiksha abhiyan • SWAYAM portal • ICT driven initiatives:- Shaala siddhi, e-Paathshala and Saransh(initiative of CBSE to conduct self review exercises. • PGI(performance grading Index):-MHRD • UDISE+ (unified district info on school education ) • Financial education for women:- Proportion of savings in their bank accounts has increased from 15.% to 54% as per the economic survey. • Participation of women in household decision making has increased from 76% to 84% in states like Goa, Chhattisgarh, West bengal. • Gender Budgeting EMPLOYMENT SCENARIO • Labour force participation rate has declined to 36.9% from 39.5% NSSO data. • Similar trends was shown by worker population ratio also declined to 34.7% • Unemployment rate stood at 6.1%(.3% in rural and 7.8% in urban areas ) • Income gap:- male employees earn roughly 1.2 to 1.3 times the earnings of regular salaried female worker. • Based on 3 schemes EPFO,NPS,ESIC in formal sector there has been positive trends. Measure of employment rate through PLFS should be improved as country is witnessing increase in demographic dividend.
