Amplitude Scaling, Addition and Multiplication

This document discusses various operations that can be performed on signals, including amplitude scaling, addition, and multiplication. Amplitude scaling involves multiplying the amplitude of a signal by a constant factor. Addition of two signals is expressed as summing the signals. Multiplication of two signals is expressed as multiplying the signals. Review questions provide examples of applying these operations and sketching the resulting signals. A GATE question asks about the proper order of performing time shifting, scaling, and reversal on continuous time signals.

Amplitude Scaling

• Multiplication of a constant with the amplitude of the signal causes

amplitude scaling.

Multiplication
• Mathematically Multiplication of Two signals can be expressed as
x3(t) =x1(t).x2 (t)
