Multi-Level Two Wheeler Parking System: Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi

This document proposes a multi-level two-wheeler parking system designed by three mechanical engineering students. It aims to maximize parking capacity by lifting vehicles to higher levels. Key points include: 1) The system stacks vehicles on racks lifted by stepper motors or hoists to park 3x as many vehicles in the same area compared to conventional parking. 2) A description and 3D model of the parking racks and lifting mechanism is provided. Calculations show it can safely lift vehicles to higher levels. 3) Benefits include optimized land use, lower costs, and a more secure parking environment compared to current conditions that waste space and increase congestion.

OVERVIEW
• Abstract
• Introduction
• Problem Statement,
• Our solution,
• Methodology,
• Description of parking lot,
• Present scenario,
• Possible outcomes,
• Benefits,
• Conclusion.
ABSTRACT
• In metropolitan cities, vehicle parking has become a major
concern in all busy areas.
• The number of two-wheelers increases day by day, the amount of
parking space also increases gradually.
• Purely mechanical setup without any sensors.
• The parking can be multiplied by three times than the conventional
parking of the two wheelers.
• Special stepper motors or hoist mechanism can be used to life the
bikes to certain levels higher from the ground.
INTRODUCTION
• The first question that arises in every mind is that “Why is the
need for multi-level parking system?”

• Parking more number of bikes in the limited space due to space

constraint is the major objective of this project.

• Another advantage of this parking system is the “mobile parking

system”, if this is carried out in a truck or a carrier.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Demand for parking infrastructure,

• Land values are higher in urban areas,

• Construction of more parking lots are expensive,

• Hunting for parking spaces,

• Bikes being parked outside results in congestion and traffic jam.

Totally 11,51,180 bikes sold / year
OUR SOLUTION
• The novelty of our project is that, the setup is completely
mechanical without the use of any sensors or any automation,
• This replaces all the congestion in parking slots and the streets,
• Numerous bikes can be parked in less space than conventional
systems,
• Long lasting life system with low fee.
DESCRIPTION OF MODEL
• Rib attached to the C-section.
• Springs attached to hold various sized wheels.
• Guide-ways are provided for the bike.
• Rollers to roll on the rails provided for the movement of the
stand.
• Lead screws are provided to raise the vehicle to a certain
height.
• Hoist mechanism is used to lift the vehicles from the ground
level.
3D MODEL
• Modelled using : Pro-e Creo 2.0
HOIST MECHANISM
• Modelled using : CATIA
WHY MULTI-LAYERED PARKING?
• Optimal utilization of space,

• Lower maintenance and operational cost,

• Secured and eco-friendly,

• Lower construction cost comparatively,

• Comfortable for users.

PARKING LOT DESCRIPTION
RACK
• Size of the single rack = 2400 x
1000 x 1000 mm,
• Number of racks are based on the
requirement,

STAND
• Length of the stand = 2200mm
• Width of the stand = 800mm
• Height of the stand = 200mm

PRESENT PARKING CONDITION
• Non-uniform parking system,
• Congestion,
• Large vacant area available,
• Damage of vehicles,
• Possibility for thefts,
• More pollution.
PREDICTED POSSIBILITIES
• Let us consider an arbitrary parking area
of 81 x 45 m,
Area= 81*45=3645m^2
• Average number of bikes parked in this
45 area = 2500
• Commercial value of land per m^2 in
metro cities are very high.
81
• For the same area as explained before,
number of bikes can be thrice based on
the rack numbers.
• Definitely, there will be a percentage
increase in the parking area.
CALCULATION
• The specified dimensions are used for the platform for parking
five bikes:
• Length = 4500 mm
• Width =2250 mm
• Load applied on the rack is maximum when the platform is fully
parked.
CALCULATION (cont.)
• Load maybe considered as Uniformly Distributed Load under
full parking.
• Consider the weight of each bike as 200kg(approx.)
200kg

a c d e f g i

b 4500 mm h
CALCULATION (cont.)
• Weight = Mass * Gravity
= 200 * 9.81 = 1962 N
• Support Reactions,
Rh = 4905 N,
Rb + Rh = 5*200*9.81 = 9810 N

• Bending Moments,
mA = 0 , mB = 0, mC = 981000 N-mm
mD = 3629700 N-mm , mE = 4512600 N-mm
mF = 3629700 N-mm , mG = 98100 N-mm
MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS
• Energy of the motor to lift the bike of 200kg and the self-weight
of the stand 30kg is 5640 J.

• 1 Watt = J/s

• 1 kW = 1.34 HorsePower

• By equating the power and energy relation, Power of the motor

is 7.563 H.P.
POSSIBLE OUTCOMES
• Increase in 30% in parking of vehicles,
• Reduced thefts,
• Reduced damage of vehicles,
• Reduced chance of fire hazard and human risks,
• Reduced parking time,
• Eco-friendly,
• Safe and secure environment.
BENEFITS
• Simple structure and simple operation,
• Saves space, time and money,
• Easy maintenance,
• Minimal human effort,
• Low fee,
• More number of bikes parked in less area,
• No noise,
• Long life span,
• Can be constructed in all residential areas.
BUDGET / STAND
• Cost of Mild Steel C section = Rs.1500
(approx.)
• Cost of 8 Helical spring = 250 x 8 = Rs.2000
(approx.)
• Rubber pads = Rs.300 (approx.)
• Rollers & socket = Rs.500 (approx.)

• Total budget = Rs.5000 (approx.)

CONCLUSION
• Important factor in metro cities, hospitals, show-rooms

• Ideal solution for today’s parking problem,

• With the use of sensors the system can also be automated without the
human intervention,

• RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology can be implemented to

reduce the response time.
