How To Become An Effective Striker

To be an effective striker requires physical fitness, technical skills, and mental awareness. Strikers must stay near the opponent's goal and look to score on every offensive attack when playing as a lone striker. When using two strikers, their roles include creating space for each other and supporting midfielders on defense. Key skills for strikers are having deadly first touch finishing, controlling the ball under pressure, positioning well to stretch defenses and anticipate plays, and visualizing situations to remain ready to score from any angle. Extensive practice is needed to master these skills and become a leader of the offensive line.

HOW TO BECOME AN

EFFECTIVE STRIKER
• To be able to become a good striker
requires a lot of practices and skills
since he is responsible for scoring
most of the goals for the team.
CENTRE FORWARD
CENTRE FORWARD
• The centre forward’s main focus is usually on
scoring as many goals as possible. However, his role
may vary sometimes prior to the coach’s strategy.
A. If the coach chooses to use one centre forward only,
then your mission is to score on every single offensive
attack.
– “Staying in the middle and near the opponent’s 18 yard
box is the ultimate position for a striker.” (

)
– The striker is usually a big man with good physical
attributes, which helps him to shield the ball away from
the defenders and win heading challenges.
B. In most of soccer tactics, two centre forwards are
played along with each other on the field.
- Your job is not to stay in one spot and score anymore
but to keep distance between each other; thereby,
create space to operate
- You also need to support the midfielders on defense
and to work the ball up field.
HOW TO BECOME AN EFFECTIVE
HOW TO BECOME AN EFFECTIVE
STRIKER STRIKER
• PHYSICAL FITNESS is required for every sport
player.
– Never let fatigue be an obstacle to you on the field.
– Just because you don’t have the ball doesn’t mean
that you can walk around while your teammates are
chasing opponents. The game without the ball is just
as important as the game with ball
– Players such as Thierry Henry or Michael Owen have
incredible speed, while other strikers rely on their
strength and power to score.
• TECHNICAL AND MENTAL SKILL are what it
takes to bring home the victory
A. TECHNICAL
- The most essential way to beat tight defense is the ability to
play the ball on first touch. It creates the element of
surprise for the opposition’s defenders. World class strikers
have such deadly first touch finish.
- Be able to get control of the ball well while you are
dribbling since you will be under high pressure with several
opponents close by.
B. MENTAL AWARENESS
1. Positioning
- Position yourself around the field to help stretch the
opponent’s defensive line and create more space for
through passes or long shots.
- Learn to anticipate and read the ball, this along with right
positioning will increase your chance of scoring greatly.
2. Visualization
- Being the main scorer, you must be able to score goals
from variety of angles. Knowing the direction you are
standing from the goal as well as distance helps your
shooting greatly
- Visualize yourself in situation as it helps you to remain
ready so that you know exactly what to do when the ball is
at your feet.
CONCLUSION
• Remember that you are the leader of the offensive
line!
• “Scoring goal is beautiful, but being a striker means
you may take a bit of a battering from opposition
defenders – particularly if you are any good.” (
