RAPT Humidity Report - 7 April 2016

This report discusses relative humidity (RH) levels and their effect on RAPT modeling output. Data was collected showing average RH levels in different spaces ranging from 38-70%. RAPT simulations were run at 50% and 70% RH, with the 70% RH simulation showing higher incident solar radiation and lower cooling loads. The report considers whether to adopt a lower RH% based on collected data or RAPT recommendations, and how this may affect beam and slab modeling in RAPT. Future work proposed includes collecting more humidity data and validating RAPT results with finite element modeling.

RAPT Humidity Report – 7th April 2016

What’s the issue?

Why 70% RH?

How would it
affect the output?
RH @ 70%

Inc=510

LT=318
RH @ 50%

Inc=422

LT=282
RAPT Help – T.7.3.4 &7.3.5
Average relative humidity from
collected data
Arup office space: 49% RH
Arup office ceiling: 38% RH
Residential house: 60-70% RH
Discussion
• Adopt lower RH% based on the collected
data or RAPT recommendation?
• How would this affect band beams and
slabs in RAPT?
Future Work
• Collect additional data samples
• Verify and validate RAPT results with FEM
