Square of A Binomial

This document discusses polynomials and special products of polynomials. It provides examples of squaring binomials and trinomials using the FOIL and box methods. It also gives examples of multiplying the sum and difference of two terms, like (x + 5)(x - 5) and squaring a binomial like (x + 3)2. The key steps shown are squaring each term and adding twice the product of terms taken two at a time.

To square a binomial quickly, we:

1.Square the first term.

2.Add twice the product of the two

terms.

3.Add the square of the last term.

Square of a Trinomial
Example: To square a trinomial,

(a  b  c) 2 1.Square each term first.

2.Then add twice the product of the terms

taken two at a time.
Square of a Trinomial
Examples:
( x  2 y  3z ) 2
Square of a Trinomial
Examples:
( x  2 y  4) 2

Sum and Difference of two Terms
Examples: To get the product of two binomials which are
sum and difference of two terms,

1.Square/Multiply the first term.

2.Subtract the square/product of the second

term.
