I. COURSE TITLE: EDUCATION 2 : THE TEACHING PROFESSION

II. COURSE OVERVIEW
Welcome back to school and congratulations! We, the faculty of
Bicol University are glad about your enrollment for the First Semester
this school year 2020-2021.
This subject will address your frequently asked questions (FAQs)
about teaching as we journey into the lessons per unit, until you have
learned the skills and competencies which you will need as a future
teacher. Moreover, this subject, The Teaching Profession will help you
understand the nature of teaching, philosophies of education, existing
laws and professionalism and transformative education. You may have
asked yourself why you have to study these. One obvious reason is
that you and your classmates will be future teachers!
Good thing you made that decision.
Consequently, if the teacher then was a “sage on the
stage,” now, the teacher will be a “guide on the side” (Alison
King, 2013) facilitating students’ learning. With these in mind,
you need to read and study the lessons and assigned topics,
participate in the discussion, do tasks, take formative and
summative assessments, and submit outputs.
These learning experiences will hopefully hone your love
for teaching this early, and they can be fun, too!
Before you get anxious of the tasks that await you, please
remember that you will be working on tasks which will embed
some power point presentations, video clips and links to
relevant websites. Furthermore, a copy of the syllabus will be
attached here as a guide. You may read in advance , work at
your own pace provided that you will be keen on submitting the
outputs on or before the deadline. Tasks for the week should be
submitted every Friday, at 5:00 pm. On the other hand, the
activities may be easy or a bit challenging depending on your
viewpoint, abilities, interests, and needs.
• III. Expected Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, you are expected
to:
1. demonstrate understanding of the
philosophical, historical, legal, socio-cultural
and political factors that influence teaching
and its development as a profession.
2. articulate a personal philosophy of teaching
that is learner centered;
3. demonstrate understanding of existing laws and
related jurisprudence governing professional ethics,
professional rights, privileges and responsibilities;
4. manifest dignity in the teaching profession through a
caring attitude, respect, and integrity in teaching; and
5. formulate a plan to realize professional development
goals based on the Philippine Professional Standards
for Teachers.
So, are you all set for this new challenge as a
college student?
Your optimism and collaboration with the class
will be of great help. Similarly, it pays to be
cooperative and respectful.
If there are questions or concerns regarding the
lessons, please feel free to ask. I will be willing to
assist you. It will also help if you read in advance
and gain insights on the significance of teaching.
